II. General recommendations for submission of original scientific works

2.1. An article should be typed using the Times New Roman font (12 points, double interval, and 2 cm top, bottom, right and left margins). The volume of an article with the list of references, schedules, drawings and tables should not exceed 12 standard typewritten pages (1 page is 1800 symbols, including spaces); a case study should not exceed 6 standard pages; reviews and lectures should not exceed 25 standard pages.

2.2. We welcome submissions that present the following categories of manuscripts

  • papers reporting the results of original research;
  • scientific reports;
  • systematic reviews and meta-analysis.

Authors should create the manuscripts using the templates of the certain formats. Please, download Word templates below:

The structure of a manuscript should follow the structure presented in a template. It is obligatory to complete all the sections given in a template (exception for the manuscripts which do not provide any information for a certain section).

We strongly recommend the authors to use the TEMPLATE file for the appropriate type of manuscript (see above) and follow the recommendations set out in the file. Please note that the editorial templates for manuscripts are not perfect for whole variety of research types and study designs. So, we recommend authors to follow the international guidelines for transparent and accurate reporting data in scholarly articles collected on the EQUATOR Network platform. Reporting guidelines for the main study types:

The editorial templates do not contradict the international guidelines for a manuscript preparation, however, if difficulties arise, the authors should be more guided by international reporting guidelines.

2.3. Manuscripts should be organized as follows: 1) title page; 2) structured summary and keywords; 3) text; 4) acknowledgements (if applicable); 5) list of references (guidelines for references list preparation); 6) names and legends of pictures, tables, schemes, and photocopies in order they appear in the manuscript; 7) drawings, tables, schemes, and photocopies should be submitted on separate pages in order they appear in the manuscript. Numeration of pages should begin from the title page.

2.4. If pictures, tables, schemes, or photocopies used in the article have been published earlier, references to the authors and publication sources are necessary. It is preferable that the Author has official permission* to use such objects. The Editors recommend that figures in tables are not repeated, but only described in the text.

2.5. Manuscripts based on reviews of original research works should contain the following sections: Introduction (reflecting an urgency of a problem and research goals); Material and methods; Results; Discussion of the obtained results and Conclusion. The text should be clear, brief and without repeating.

III. Publication of uncontrolled trials results

3.1. An uncontrolled trial is a research without control group.

3.2. Articles based on uncontrolled trials results will be accepted for publication only if the uncontrolled design of the study is mentioned in "Material and methods" and "Discussion" sections. It is important not to exaggerate significance of the obtained results in the "Conclusion" section.

IV. Ethical aspects

4.1. Trials should be held in accordance with the main principles of "Good Clinical Practice". Participants of a trial should be informed about the purposes and main aims. They must sign their written informed consent to participate in the trial. The "Material and methods" section must contain details of the above-stated procedure, and notification that Ethical committee has approved the trial report. If a trial includes radiological methods it is desirable* to describe these methods and exposition doses in the "Material and methods" section.

4.2. Patients have the right to privacy and confidentiality of their personal data. Therefore, information containing pictures, names, and initials of patients or numbers of medical documents should not be presented in the materials. If such information is needed for scientific purposes, it is necessary to get written informed consent of the patient (or the parent, the trustee, close relatives when it is applicable) for its publication in print or electronically. If necessary, written consent should be presented to the Editors at request.

4.3. Animal trials must conform to the International Guiding Principles for Biomedical Research Involving Animals, adopted by the Council for International Organizations Of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) in 1985.

V. Authorship

5.1. Each author should significantly contribute to the work submitted for publication.

5.2. If more than 4 authors are indicated in the author's list, it is desirable* to describe contribution of each author in the covering letter. If the authorship is attributed to a group of authors, all members of the group must meet all criteria for authorship. For economy of space members of the group can be listed in a separate column at the end of the article. Authors can participate in the submitted manuscript in the following ways:

  • 1) working out the concept and design or analysing and interpreting of data;
  • 2) substantiating the manuscript or checking the crucial intellectual content;
  • 3) giving final approval of the manuscript.

Participation in data gathering only does not justify the authorship (such participation should be noted in the Acknowledgements section).

Example

Authors’ participation: All authors: approval of the final version of the article, responsibility for the integrity of all parts of the article. Concept and design of the study — Igor V. Ponomarev, Yury N. Andrusenko; collection and processing of material — Sergey B. Topchiy, Ludmila D. Shakina. Text writing – Igor V. Ponomarev; editing — Ludmila D. Shakina.
